Welcome to the fourth edition of the Community Care News Digest for 2022. In this edition of the News Digest you will read about all the latest updates, information, resources and events that are happening across the region.
Pre-empting the conclusion of the six-week long federal election campaign, the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) hosted a live roundtable to discuss the upcoming Federal election and key areas the new Government should commit to as sector wide aged care reforms continue to remain a focus of the election campaign.
We welcome the launch of the Care Finder program, which is part of the response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care’s recommendation for more localised & face to face supports to help people navigate access to aged care. South West Sydney Primary Health Network (SWSPHN) Care Finder Local Health Forums will host a number of forums from 26 May to 14 June 2022 in various locations across South Western Sydney. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is coming up and the Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS) is hosting an online forum which will explore how to build resilience to support older Australians experiencing abuse, and help build a supportive environment for older Australians to live longer, healthier and free from abuse.
Read on for information about more exciting programs and events, including the More Jobs More Care Individual Support pre-employment training program. This training covers core components of a Certificate III in Individual Support including First Aid certification. Anglicare is running a free suicide prevention training, which is targeted at anyone who works with older people, including aged care workers, pharmacists and GPs.
