The inaugural Local Health Forums hosted by South Western Sydney Primary Health Network will assist in finding gaps in service delivery and community need and is part of the response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care’s recommendation for more localised and face to face supports to help people navigate access to aged care.

They are an expansion of Local Health Councils to include providing input on strategic direction as well as holding stakeholder and community consultation for the Care Finder program.

  

Older Persons Mental Health First Aid

The Older Persons Mental Health First Aid (OPMHFA) course offers registration priority to Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) service volunteers in the Canterbury-Bankstown and Inner West Local Government Areas (LGAs). Certificates of Attendance will be issued after attending both sessions.

Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS) is once again holding their World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) Online Forum. The 2022 WEAAD theme is Building Resilience. This online forum will explore how to build resilience to support older Australians experiencing abuse, and help build a supportive environment for older Australians to live longer, healthier and free from abuse. Aged care and community service providers, community members, law enforcement workers, government at all levels, researchers, students, education and training organisations, and health and allied health professionals are all encouraged to attend. Participants will also have a chance to ask questions to panellists after their presentations. Seniors Winter Bus Trips

Cumberland Council’s Seniors and Disability Team and Bridge Housing have paired up to offer free bus trips to senior residents in the Cumberland LGA. Residents must be 60 years or older (or 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents). Residents will be contacted via phone prior to the bus trip for confirmation. The limit is one trip per person, but there is a waitlist available for additional trips. Masks are mandatory while travelling on the coach, as well as in buses and required venues. With the expected release of the annual NSW Budget on 21 June 2022, NCOSS are hosting a free online training session for NSW not-for-profit peak body/sector leaders and workers, and relevant stakeholders who work with and across the NSW social services sector.
