Welcome to our second edition of the Community Care News Digest for 2022! In this edition of the News Digest you will read about all the latest updates, information, resources and events that are happening across the region.
As the impacts of the pandemic continue to impact the community and place pressure on frontline workers in all areas of the community sector, we saw the impact of extreme weather conditions and major flooding over the last month resulting in thousands of people in south-western Sydney ordered to evacuate.
For those concerned about the wellbeing of clients impacted by the floods, the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) has a dedicated support line (1800 700 600) available for older people which aims to ensure that older Australians are safe, healthy and have access to services they need. Clients can receive wellbeing call-backs, either by registering themselves or by giving consent for a service provider to do so on their behalf.
To mark 2022 Seniors festival, there has been a number of successful events hosted by Western Sydney Local Councils. We hope that you were able to participate in some of these activities which included hydrotherapy, hearing tests, children and seniors play dates, active seniors classes, help navigating the My Aged Care system and seniors scam awareness workshop.
Of note, a year on since the release of the final report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, an update has been published sharing the progress made in reforming the five pillars of its five year plan to deliver respect, care and dignity for every senior Australian.
